General
Students should have access to a laptop, an audio headset with a good microphone, and a strong Internet connection. During the session, we will be using an online collaborative whiteboard and a video conferencing platform (i.e. Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams). The student will be able to see (and write with us) on screen. Unless requested otherwise, we have invested in digital textbooks and resources aligned with the Ontario curriculum. Both the student and tutor can also upload any images or worksheets into the whiteboard. The whiteboard software allows us to export what we work on to PDF, which the student can save to their computer hard drive.
We are trusted subject matter experts in math and science. Over the past few years, we have expanded our offerings to be able to support tutoring for standardized testing. This includes SAT/ACT, GMAT, GRE, SSAT, and other independent school admissions test. Depending on the test, we can support in other areas, including the Verbal section and interview preparation.
The safety of your children is our highest priority. All tutors currently employed and those seeking to become a tutor at Math Doctor are required to undergo and pass the Vulnerable Sector Screening Test (administered by the Toronto Police Services) before an employment offer is extended. These business policies are in place to give you and your child a greater peace of mind.
Scheduling
Our team of instructors is available to help your child(ren) in-person or online 1-on-1 seven days a week, between 9am and 10pm.
Frequency of tutorial lessons depends on your child’s needs and goals. If your child is behind on materials or needs extra support, two weekly 1-hr lessons are recommended. 90 min and 2-hr weekly lessons can also be arranged. We can discuss this more in our initial consultation and adjust as needed.
At Math Doctor, parents sign up for a weekly tutoring program with us. For most students, we’ll have sessions at the same day and time each week. We will discuss this during our initial consultation, and we can also discuss changes to our schedule at any time.
For small group lessons, please kindly call or email us for availability and details on how that works.
Great question! If there is a need for more sessions beyond the weekly tutorial lessons, the best way for you to get in touch with us is by email. We’ll see what we can do to help.
Payment
Our rates reflect the experience and the quality of instruction your child will receive. We offer various programs at different price points, starting at $55 per tutorial session. Due to the large amount of program options available, please kindly take a few minutes to complete our enrolment application form. We will be giving you a quick phone call within 24 hours, share with you our pricing, and answer any questions you may have for us.
For regularly scheduled weekly tutoring, a fixed day and time of the week is set aside for your child(ren). Parents are required to pre-pay for the entire month on the first week of every month. To avoid late payment, there will be a $50 late fee that will be applied on the 15th day past due.
Our cancellation policy serves to be fair to both our students and tutors. Research shows students who take frequent and regular tutorial lessons will generate the most consistent positive results.
Tutoring is a valuable commitment, and showing up to each tutorial lesson helps your child(ren) create momentum in their learning. If it is not at all possible to reschedule to another day that week, we kindly ask that you let us know about a cancellation as soon as possible. We require a 24-hour notice for a cancellation in order to not be charged. Lessons cancelled with less than 24 hours notice must be paid in full. Excessive cancellations may be ground for termination.
Word of mouth advertising helps us grow our business. We’re always looking to set up more small group tutoring. Feel free to connect with us if you have something in mind and we can work with you to get you the best rate.
